Fake Out

A bluffing party game played on your TV, with your phone as the controller.

Fake Out is a bluffing party game for three to eight players. The big screen shows a strange but true fact with one word missing. Everyone types a fake answer on their phone, then tries to spot the real answer hidden among all the fakes. You score for finding the truth and for every player your fake fools.

How to play Fake Out

  1. A game has five rounds with three or four players, and four rounds with five to eight players. The last round counts double.
  2. Write: you have 45 seconds to type a believable fake answer of up to 40 characters. Stuck? Tap Suggest one for a ready-made fake you can send or edit.
  3. A fake that matches the real answer, even with a small typo, is sent back so you can write another one.
  4. Pick: every fake and the truth appear together. You have 20 seconds to choose the one you think is true. You cannot pick your own fake.
  5. Reveal: the big screen goes through the answers one by one and shows who wrote each fake and who fell for it, then reveals the truth.
  6. Finding the truth scores 1000 points, and every player who picks your fake gives you 500 points.

Controls

A text box with Suggest one and Lock it in buttons, then one button for each answer. Reaction buttons (HAHA, WOW, NO WAY, BOO) show up on the big screen.

Tips

  • The best fakes sound boring and likely. Copy the style of the question.
  • Think about who wrote what: a joke answer is usually a fake from a friend.
  • Fall behind? The last round is worth double, so one great fake can win it.

Start Fake Out in three steps

  1. Open play.codewithshamil.com on a TV or laptop and press Host a game.
  2. Connect each phone to the same WiFi and scan the QR code on the screen.
  3. The first player picks Fake Out from the menu on their phone.
