Super Over is a cricket batting game for one to eight players. The ground is in 3D on your TV or laptop, and everyone bats one over from their phone while the others bowl and call the balls. The highest score wins. When you play alone, you bowl one over to a computer batter and then chase its score.

How to play Super Over

  1. Players bat one at a time, in a random order. An over is six balls (four balls when six or more people play), and two wickets end it early.
  2. The player before you in the batting order bowls to you (the first batter faces the last), choosing each ball in secret: yorker (fast, at the stumps), bouncer (fast and short, to the left), slower ball (slow, wide to the right) or spin (turns late to any of the three sides).
  3. The batter watches the ball on their own phone and taps left, straight or right for the side it comes to, as it reaches the line. Right side and perfect timing is a six; good timing a four; a little off gives two or one.
  4. Each pace ball has its own trap for a right-side shot that is clearly mistimed: late on a yorker is bowled, late on a bouncer is a top edge that is caught, and early on a slower ball spoons a catch.
  5. Picking the wrong side with good timing still gets a single, but a slightly mistimed wrong-side shot takes an edge and is caught. Missing a ball that is heading for the stumps, or not playing a shot at it, is bowled.
  6. Everyone else calls each ball before it is bowled: out, dot ball, one or two, or four or six. A correct call is worth one point.
  7. Your score is your runs plus your correct calls. The highest score wins, and a tie goes to the player with more sixes.

Controls

Batting: three buttons for the shot side (pull left, drive straight, cut right). Bowling: four buttons for the delivery. Watching: four buttons to call the next ball.

Tips

  • Watch your phone, not the TV, when you bat: the timing is judged on what your phone shows.
  • Spin only shows which way it turns in the second half of its flight. Wait for it.
  • When you bowl, change the pace. A slower ball after two quick ones catches batters early.
